Step into the shoes of Ansel Adams, Charles Weed, Carlton Watkins and Edward Weston during a basic or advanced photography lesson in magnificent Yosemite National Park. Bring your camera to capture the jagged peaks, meadows, rivers, lakes and wildlife of Yosemite Valley or the High Sierra, all while sharpening your photography skills and learning new techniques from your expert instructor. You’ll visit both iconic and lesser-known locations throughout the park. This experience is open to photo enthusiasts of all experience levels.

People have been photographing Yosemite since 1859, when Charles Weed took the first salt print photo of Yosemite Falls. Since then, artists like Ansel Adams, Carlton Watkins and Edward Weston have produced stunning, unforgettable photographs of the Yosemite Valley and High Sierra.
Choose a basic or advanced photography lesson depending on your skill level and preferences. Your photography adventure starts at 3:30pm, and your exact trailhead departure point will be confirmed after booking. Follow your guide in your car or on foot through Yosemite National Park to your photo locations. Along with your own camera, be sure to bring along any other equipment you'll need such as a sturdy tripod, lenses, filters, extra memory cards and extra batteries.
Basic Photo Lesson: Icons of Yosemite Valley Whether you’re shooting in black and white or color, your photos of Yosemite Valley’s most iconic locations will surely be beautiful. Your instructor will discuss basic techniques including depth of field, hyperfocal distance, exposure techniques, metering, the zone system, white balance and composition.
Begin at the Church Bowl parking lot and picnic area, where Ansel Adams shot two famous images, and make your way to Inspiration Point on Wawona Road, offering epic sunset photo opportunities.
Advanced Photo Lesson: Icons of the High Sierra After the winter snows have given way to the warm days of summer, the High Sierra affords a romantic grandeur: granite domes, jagged peaks, wildflower meadows, sparkling lakes and wildlife all around.
Begin at Olmsted Point, a favorite site of many photographers, and travel to Tenaya Lake to explore its granite shores, erratic boulders, stunted trees and majestic reflections.
Afterwards, continue to Tuolumne Meadows, where several different stops will yield views of the meadows, Mt Dana, the Cathedral Range, the Tuolumne River, Lembert Dome and more. If conditions permit, evening alpen glow will blanket the Sierra crest and provide you with a vibrant, luminous scene even after the sun has dropped below the horizon.
Perfect for more experienced photographers, this lesson covers advanced techniques for photographing wildlife and macro subjects. Topics covered include depth of field, hyperfocal distance, exposure techniques, metering, the zone system, white balance and composition.

This private tour of Yosemite National Park takes you on a 5-hour nature excursion, led by a local naturalist guide. Depending on your preferences and the time of year, hike through Yosemite’s wildflower meadows to admire abundant floral displays, or go in search of diverse birdlife as you drive to some of the park’s most productive habitats. Both wildflower and bird enthusiasts will learn about Yosemite’s natural history while connecting with the great outdoors.

Meet at a prearranged location in Yosemite National Park in the morning for your 5-hour private tour, which can be customized to suit your fitness level and interests. You’ll be greeted by your guide, a local expert in the region’s natural history with more than two decades of experience leading tours in the Sierra Nevada.

Camera in hand, walk with your guide through Yosemite’s meadows, whose diverse wildflowers attract pollinators and nature lovers alike, or hop in your own car and follow your guide in search of prime bird habitat. Along the way, your guide shares knowledge of favorite places and connects you with Yosemite’s ecosystems. (See tour options below.)
Stop frequently to rest, learn about your surroundings, and fuel up with your pre-packed snacks, water and lunch (own expense). Then continue exploring the meadows, fields and forests of Yosemite before your tour ends at the starting point.
Wildflower Walk

Yosemite is home to several unique species of wildflowers, which blanket the Sierra Nevada throughout spring and summer. With dynamic shifts in elevation, Yosemite is the perfect place to watch the progression of flowers as they move from the foothills to the high country. Hike with your guide to a region of the park with abundant blooms. Depending on the season, you may identify different species, including monkey flowers, tiger lilies, Indian paintbrush, shooting starts, asters, buttercups and lupines, each enchanting you with their brilliant displays of color and lovely scents.

Birdwatching Outing

If you love watching birds through your binoculars, you’ll enjoy spotting some of Yosemite ‘s 262 species of birds, including 165 resident and migratory species, as you tour some of the park’s most productive habitats. Drive your own vehicle, following your guide to locations where feathered friends are commonly spotted, and enjoy long stops at each site. The tour can be modified to search for certain target species, or to account for shifting bird populations. You might observe flocks of warblers, vireos, flycatchers and tanagers forage for insects, seeds and berries; listen to various birdcalls and songs; or learn about raptors like the sharp-shinned hawk and the elusive peregrine falcon.
Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.
