Step into the shoes of Ansel Adams, Charles Weed, Carlton Watkins and Edward Weston during a basic or advanced photography lesson in magnificent Yosemite National Park. Bring your camera to capture the jagged peaks, meadows, rivers, lakes and wildlife of Yosemite Valley or the High Sierra, all while sharpening your photography skills and learning new techniques from your expert instructor. You’ll visit both iconic and lesser-known locations throughout the park. This experience is open to photo enthusiasts of all experience levels.

People have been photographing Yosemite since 1859, when Charles Weed took the first salt print photo of Yosemite Falls. Since then, artists like Ansel Adams, Carlton Watkins and Edward Weston have produced stunning, unforgettable photographs of the Yosemite Valley and High Sierra.
Choose a basic or advanced photography lesson depending on your skill level and preferences. Your photography adventure starts at 3:30pm, and your exact trailhead departure point will be confirmed after booking. Follow your guide in your car or on foot through Yosemite National Park to your photo locations. Along with your own camera, be sure to bring along any other equipment you'll need such as a sturdy tripod, lenses, filters, extra memory cards and extra batteries.
Basic Photo Lesson: Icons of Yosemite Valley Whether you’re shooting in black and white or color, your photos of Yosemite Valley’s most iconic locations will surely be beautiful. Your instructor will discuss basic techniques including depth of field, hyperfocal distance, exposure techniques, metering, the zone system, white balance and composition.
Begin at the Church Bowl parking lot and picnic area, where Ansel Adams shot two famous images, and make your way to Inspiration Point on Wawona Road, offering epic sunset photo opportunities.
Advanced Photo Lesson: Icons of the High Sierra After the winter snows have given way to the warm days of summer, the High Sierra affords a romantic grandeur: granite domes, jagged peaks, wildflower meadows, sparkling lakes and wildlife all around.
Begin at Olmsted Point, a favorite site of many photographers, and travel to Tenaya Lake to explore its granite shores, erratic boulders, stunted trees and majestic reflections.
Afterwards, continue to Tuolumne Meadows, where several different stops will yield views of the meadows, Mt Dana, the Cathedral Range, the Tuolumne River, Lembert Dome and more. If conditions permit, evening alpen glow will blanket the Sierra crest and provide you with a vibrant, luminous scene even after the sun has dropped below the horizon.

Trek alongside three major waterfalls in Yosemite National Park — Illilouette Fall, Nevada Fall and Vernal Fall — on this full-day guided hike. After a shuttle ride to Glacier Point, take in scenic views of Half Dome and other landmarks as you learn about the park’s natural features. Then embark on a moderately strenuous 8.5-mile journey on foot, descending more than 3,000 feet to the valley floor via the Panorama Trail and the Mist Trail. This tour operates from May to October and has a guide-to-client ratio of 1:6 to ensure personalized attention. Larger groups can also be accommodated.

Start your full-day tour at Yosemite Lodge, located across from Yosemite Falls, where you’ll meet your guides in the morning. From here, hop on a shuttle bus to Glacier Point and listen to informative narration about Yosemite National Park during the 1-hour ride.

Your hike begins at Glacier Point, where you are treated to iconic views of prominent landmarks such as Half Dome and Cloud’s Rest, as well as three waterfalls: Yosemite Falls, Vernal Fall and Nevada Fall. Your guides discuss the historical significance of the viewpoint and other park features while you have plenty of photo opportunities.

Then, follow a guide on foot along mostly downhill terrain that takes you on a scenic 8.5-mile (13.7-km) route with a total 3,179-foot (969-meter) elevation loss; you'll have breaks to refuel. Your first 1.5-mile (2.4-km) push descends 800 vertical feet (244 meters) in elevation to the top of the 370-foot (113-meter) Illilouette Fall, where you can catch your breath before continuing your hike.

The next 1 to 1.5 miles (1.6 to 2.4 km) takes your small group up a moderately strenuous section of switchbacks that ascend about 300 vertical feet (91 meters). Once the switchbacks are conquered, the trail flattens out for an easy and scenic 1 to 1.5 miles to the next junction — the Panorama Trail.

Running along this eastern point in the valley, the Panorama Trail offers postcard-worthy views that live up to its name. The following mile — a strenuous downhill series of 20 or so switchbacks — drops you 700 feet (213 meters) in elevation to the outflow of Nevada Fall.

After a lunch break atop the 594-foot (181-meter) waterfall, continue with your guides on one of two trails, depending on your group’s preference. A less strenuous 3.5-mile (5.6-km) trek down the John Muir Trail offers higher vantage points with views of Nevada and Vernal falls, as well as of Half Dome’s south face and the abrupt uprising of Liberty Cap. Or, opt for a slightly shorter route of 2.5 miles (4 km) down the granite staircases of the Mist Trail, which runs alongside the scenic Merced River and its 594-foot Nevada Fall and 317-foot (97-meter) Vernal Fall.

Both trails lead to restrooms and running water near the footbridge at the base of Vernal Fall. From here, it’s about a 1-mile downhill hike on a steep, paved trail to Happy Isles, where you catch a shuttle bus back to Yosemite Lodge before you bid farewell to your guides.
